The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Network and Systems Administrator to support and enhance our core IT infrastructure in a highly technical, research-driven environment. Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, you will ensure network, server, and storage platforms are secure, scalable, and highly available to support both scientific research and business operations.
This hands-on role has a strong focus on enterprise networking, systems administration, and automation, with opportunities to drive efficiency and continuous improvement across the Institute.
What You'll Do
* Manage and support network infrastructure including Fortinet firewalls, routers and switches, VPNs, and Cisco/Dell switches
* Provide BAU systems administration across Linux/Unix and Windows environments
* Monitor and optimise network and server performance
* Administer storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions
* Collaborate with research teams, IT colleagues, and external partners
* Apply security controls, patching, and access management
* Drive automation and infrastructure improvements
* Maintain accurate technical documentation
What You'll Bring
You are a technically capable and proactive Network and Systems Administrator who enjoys working in complex environments and enabling others through reliable, secure technology.
* Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
* Proven experience in network and systems administration within a technical environment
* Strong hands-on experience with Fortinet networking technologies
* Experience with Cisco and Dell switching
* Exposure to virtualisation (VMware, OpenShift, Proxmox) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
* Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills
