Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and skilled professional to join our team as a Soil Sample Curator. This role involves the curation of field-collected soil samples and herbarium specimens, including handling, processing, scanning, and management.
The successful candidate will be based with the Ecosystem Surveillance team at the Waite Campus, Adelaide, and will work in a small team environment. Key tasks include:
* Curating and managing soil samples and herbarium specimens
* Processing and scanning samples for preservation and identification
* Managing data digitally using MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook)
In addition to these key tasks, the Collections Assistant may also support the team in undertaking field surveys following well-established ecological monitoring protocols. Interstate and remote travel, including camping in remote locations for extended periods, may be required.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Knowledge or experience undertaking ecological surveys, including collecting and preparing plant or soil samples for preservation, identification, and classification
* Knowledge or experience using MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook) and collecting data digitally
* Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to help others achieve program objectives
* Ability to communicate effectively, seek understanding, and ask questions to clarify meaning
