Yuvoice is the creator of civic engagement media, striving to change the world by addressing the sociopolitical and civic issues. With a team of over 150 individuals from more than 25 countries, Yuvoice has built the largest pro-democracy community engagement platform globally. The organisation focuses on social justice and creates a space for real and honest stories, emphasising education, inspiration, and the creation of movements.
Role Overview
We are seeking passionate, regionally rooted Volunteer Journalists to join our growing network of storytellers. You will be responsible for producing one original news story per week that reflects the realities, challenges, and voices of your region. You will work closely with the Regional Director of Journalism, Australia, and attend the weekly journalism meeting, and contribute approximately 5 to 10 hours per week to pitch, research, report, and write compelling journalism.
This is a unique opportunity to shape narratives, spotlight underrepresented communities, and contribute to a global media platform that values integrity, creativity, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Pitch, research, and write one original Australia-based news article per week, focused on timely, relevant, or impactful regional stories.
Attend one weekly journalism meeting to brainstorm, receive feedback, and align with the regional and global editorial vision.
Collaborate with the Director and the team of journalists on story development and refinement.
Uphold the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and ethical reporting.
Stay informed about local developments and underreported issues within your region.
Incorporate multimedia elements (images, audio, video and data) where applicable to enrich storytelling.
What we're looking for
Solid writing and reporting skills, with a keen news sense and journalistic curiosity.
Passion for storytelling especially stories that drive impact or amplify marginalised voices.
Ability to meet weekly deadlines and manage your own reporting schedule.
Collaborative mindset and openness to editorial feedback and team discussions.
Understanding of regional issues, cultural sensitivities, and audience dynamics.
Qualifications
Degree/Diploma/Certification or experience in Media/Journalism
Skills in Feature Writing and News Writing
Proficiency in News Story Research including building and managing sources
Strong communication skills
Ability to work independently and remotely
Passion for social justice and civic engagement
