Job Summary
PsiQuantum is opening a new laboratory in Brisbane, Australia, to focus on the validation and high-performance operation of our quantum photonic systems. We are looking for a motivated technical engineer to support these experimental efforts and development within the laboratory.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing installation and maintenance of complex subsystems, and some operations elements as we bring up and operate the laboratory. They will work with measurement, design, and operations teams in Brisbane and across all of PsiQuantum's technical disciplines.
We are seeking an individual with a broad range of practical skills and experience across some/all of our technology areas which include cryogenics, vacuum, electrical, electronics, controls, optics and mechanical. There will be opportunities to upskill in areas where candidates have less experience.
This role will be based onsite in Brisbane, Australia.
However, PsiQuantum is a highly collaborative international organization, and we expect this individual will travel up to 20% of their time outside Australia as required.
Responsibilities
Operation of high-end lab equipment including cryostats, vacuum systems, vacuum pumps and hand tools.
Support testing and characterization of RF components at cryogenic temperatures.
Assemble and maintain cryogenic setups including cryostats, vacuum pumps and control equipment.
Perform quality control checks and data logging.
Develop, execute and document best-practice procedures.
Fault-finding, repair and maintenance in lab hardware (in Australia and worldwide), including out-of-hours where required.
Plan maintenance and upgrades of core test equipment to ensure maximum uptime.
Supervise interns, apprentices and contractors.
Qualifications
At least 5 years practical experience in a similar role within a scientific or advanced engineering environment.
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
Experience building and operating cryogenic equipment.
Vacuum equipment assembly and test.
Good understanding of RF best practice and RF signal cabling, including in cryogenic environments.
Experience operating test equipment manually and via control software.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various teams and external stakeholders.
Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identify and resolve potential issues.
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, as well as taking initiative.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Electronics assembly.
Ability to solder to a high standard.
General mechanical assembly and fitting.
Ability to communicate effectively with electrical and general manufacturing contractors.
Proficient in the use of computer software for hardware debug and data logging.
Experience in setting up computer/hardware networks.
Experience working on international projects involving travel to remote locations for install/maintenance.
