Selection Criteria

* Capacity to undertake routine support tasks across a range of functions in one or more work areas within a school environment.
* Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively and sensitively with members of the school community including students and the capacity to provide support and / or attendant care to students where necessary.
* Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office systems, software or technical equipment as relevant to the position.
* Capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including teachers, education support, students and parents to cater for the learning/physical difficulties of specific students and modify work as appropriate.
* A demonstrated capacity to support the physical, social and learning needs of a student with severe Cerebral Palsy / non ambulant, sensory processing challenges and complex communication needs.


Role


Positions at this level undertake a variety of duties which may include administrative, clerical, keyboard support, assisting with maintenance and management of stores and supplies, assisting teachers in the classroom and other educational activities and providing attendant care and assistance to students. The position may work within a variety of school settings, such as office, library, laboratories (science, computer, language, music or other).


Responsibilities

* Provide physical and emotional care for students with complex learning and physical difficulties through assistance with eating, dressing, washing and personal requirements where mutual agreement is reached, appropriate information and training is provided and relevant regulations are followed.
* Participate in team meetings and work closely with the Disability Inclusion Coordinator, Disability Inclusion leader and Assistant Principal and assist with direction, in the facilitation of the schools overall integration program.
* Assist with student mobility enabling, toileting supervision, support with eating (Peg Feeding), access to classrooms and recreation areas, transport etc. This should occur in a context where training in procedures is provided and equipment is used where necessary,
* Assist teachers with the implementation of the program in the classroom and when in attendance at sport, work experience, excursion, camps and school programs.
* Assist in the preparation of student resources and equipment and modification of student work where necessary.
* Prepare basic curriculum support resources and set up and put away equipment and materials in support of teaching programs.
* Provide intensive supervision such as one-to-one attendant care to ensure safety inside and outside the classroom and during both instruction and non-instruction time if needed. This may include supervision at recess and lunchtime.
* Assist under direction, with paramedical, outdoor physical education sessions together with therapy activities, exercises and mobility.
* Ensure that the Disability Inclusion Coordinator & Leader are kept informed and record notes onto Compass as needed.
* Undertake all duties currently expected of Education Support Officers Range 2.

Location Profile


Scoresby Secondary College is located in Knox with an enrolment around 300, which is expected to rise significantly over the next few years. The College serves the communities of Scoresby, Knoxfield, Ferntree Gully and the surrounding suburbs of Rowville, Lysterfield, Wantirna South and Boronia. The College is structured around two sub schools with each sub school established to meet the age specific needs for the different stages of their journey from early adolescence into adulthood. Junior School (Years 7,8,9) Senior School (Years 10,11, 12). A strong Code of Conduct provides for a safe and orderly environment.
