The Role

You will be responsible for supporting line management in the delivery of medical and emergency response services, ensuring a safe working environment and minimising risk and harm to all site employees and contractors. The role enhances and complements the capabilities of the onsite Occupational Health Nurse (OHN).

The position involves supporting, mentoring, and providing leadership to the onsite Emergency Response Team, offering direct operational support in both day-to-day activities and emergency situations. The role also delivers qualified medical support to strengthen and assist the onsite OHN and ensure effective emergency response procedures are maintained.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position based at our Kwinana Refinery.

Key Responsibilities

Medical:

• Deliver high-level pre-hospital medical care, including assessment, treatment, and stabilisation of injured or ill personnel.

• Maintain clinical readiness of medical facilities, vehicles, equipment and supplies.

• Assist Occupational Health Nurse with health assessments, fitness-for-work evaluations, and health surveillance where required.

• Manage medical records with confidentiality and compliance with relevant legislation related to AOD testing.

• Provide health education, wellness initiatives, and first-aid training to staff

• Support the OHN in daily activities

Emergency Response

• Lead and coordinate emergency response during medical, fire, rescue, hazardous materials, and other critical incidents.

• Support development and implementation of emergency response plans, drills, and exercises.

• Act as Incident Commander / ER Team Leader as required.

• Provide technical advice on emergency response capabilities, equipment, and resource readiness.

• Plan, co-ordinate, and participate in site emergency drills.

• Plan, co-ordinate, and train the ERT, whilst maintaining accurate records

• Maintain a state of operational capabilities including ER responders, vehicle and equipment readiness.

• Participate in investigations of incidents and near misses, ensuring lessons learned are implemented.

• Ensure legislative requirements are met in Emergency Response fields.

• Equipment preparedness including compliance inspection, reporting and replacement.

• Contribute effectively to the development and maintenance of the Covalent's emergency service infrastructure, policies and protocols.

• To undertake other duties consistent with the function and role of the position and comply with all directions from Superintendent Emergency Services & Security, Supervisors and Managers.

• To provide/support leadership and training services for all departments in emergency management practices.

• Provide training and instruction to work groups, attend toolbox meetings and deliver emergency response-based guidance, information and training

• Conduct daily, weekly, monthly reporting duties.

• Provide leadership and technical support in planned work, emergency scenarios as well as incidents where they arise.

• Conducting workplace inspections, in line with emergency plans and Cov expectations

• Review and support updates to the site response & rescue plans, emergency management plan, systems and procedures, in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

• Liaise closely with 'Operations teams, to meet the needs of business such as Confined space Risk assessments and set up of access/ egress systems.

• Liaise closely with onsite OHN, for training and operational responses.

• Liaise with all emergency services, as/ when required

• Work closely with the Mt Holland ERT team to develop a one Covalent approach to Emergency Services.

Role Requirements

• Certification III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue (equivalent or higher), Including as a minimum Road Crash Rescue, Firefighting, Confined Space Rescue, Breathing Apparatus (Open Circuit), Hazchem, Vertical rescue.

• Cert IV in Healthcare (Ambulance) or Diploma of Emergency Health Care (or higher)

• CPR Certificate (valid within 12 months)

• Drug and AlhHLTPAT005 - Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing

• Valid "MR" Drivers Licence.

• Incident reporting & Investigation (Desirable)

• Knowledge and understanding of INX systems

• National Police Clearance (no less than 6 months old)

• Strong knowledge of emergency response protocols and procedures.

• Ability to work collaboratively with other emergency services agencies and stakeholders

• Proactive & Solution focused

• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Highly regarded).

• Operate and maintain a 4WD (Desirable).
