Head of Learning Area - Science - Mathematics

This is a permanent, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026.

Tom Price Senior High School (SHS) is located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It offers a supportive and welcoming learning environment focused on empowerment and diversity. The school partners with local universities and industry to provide high‑quality education in STEM and vocational pathways, and has strong community engagement through cadet programs, Indigenous partnerships, and outdoor learning experiences.


The Role

We are searching for a highly capable and experienced Head of Learning Area (HoLA) of Science and/or Mathematics who will serve as an integral member of the school leadership team. The role requires whole‑school planning and review, leading the Centre of Resource Excellence (CoRE) Academy program, and supporting both Science and Mathematics curricula.

Responsibilities include:

* Executing comprehensive performance development and mentoring programs to support teachers from Graduate to Lead Teacher, fostering a culture of high‑quality teaching and learning.
* Leading the development of effective and responsive pedagogy that recognises student strengths and learning needs, using appropriate assessments and data analytics to monitor and improve student learning.
* Building and maintaining a positive, engaging, safe, caring, and healthy environment that meets the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of every student.
* Managing both Science and Mathematics learning areas, driving engagement through STEAM, project‑based learning and on‑country learning experiences.


About You

The ideal candidate will have:

* Pedagogical leadership and interdisciplinary practice, with a commitment to professional growth and literacy/numeracy integration.
* Comprehensive curriculum knowledge and data‑driven practice for years 7‑12 Science or Mathematics.
* Exceptional relationship and community building skills, culturally responsive to diverse students, staff, parents and community members.
* Proactive leadership and strategic management, able to absorb resource and staffing decisions.
* Effective restorative classroom management and a strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice.
* Experience in excursion planning and event management for authentic learning adventures.

* Attractive Country Teaching Program Allowance of $10,210 per year.
* District allowance of $9,299 per year.

Eligibility

* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with right to work in Australia.
* Hold registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before employment.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number before employment.

o Demonstrated capacity to manage staff, facilities and financial resources.
