Deliver State significant development assessment projects for NSW Temporary up to June 2027 full-time (35 hours per week) opportunity Office location – Parramatta with flexible working supported in alignment with government policy PO2 Salary relative to experience and ranges from $138,539 to $148,283 super The role The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure improves the liveability and prosperity of NSW. The Development Assessment and Sustainability division within the Department assesses and regulates development proposals, focusing on balancing community, environmental, and economic needs, and determining proposals for major development, including state significant projects. The Senior Planning Officer Assessments role within the Regional Assessments Team is responsible for high quality, efficient and timely delivery of assessment advice to ensure State significant projects meet all statutory obligations, Government policy requirements, and Government goals for a more robust and efficient state planning system that achieves strategic infrastructure, economic and growth objectives. The team assesses a wide variety of SSD and non‑SSD major projects across Regional NSW and the Western Sydney Aerotropolis. This includes mixed‑use developments in revitalising centres such as Gosford and Honeysuckle, emerging centres like Bradfield, affordable housing projects, residential subdivisions, and cultural and tourism developments. The team also assesses Aerotropolis Master Plans and Part 4 local development in key regional areas, including Gosford, the Alpine Resorts, and the Special Activation Precincts (Wagga, Parkes, Moree and Jindabyne). You’ll work alongside colleagues based in Sydney, Gosford, Coffs Harbour, Wollongong, Queanbeyan and Jindabyne, as well as the Department’s building surveying team, who provide expert advice, certify developments on behalf of the Minister, and support improved fire safety outcomes. You will assess the merits of complex State significant projects in line with best practice frameworks and benchmark assessment outcome turnaround times, produce high quality work on a wide range of planning matters, including the preparation of well written reports and briefing notes and effective conditions of consent and critically analyse and evaluate key issues, recommend innovative options, solutions, practices and processes to enable timely responses to customer enquiries.
