**The Role:**
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme provides entry-level support to assist older people aged 65 years and over to remain living at home and in their community. This includes social support. At genU we connect volunteers with an older person who is feeling lonely and/or socially isolated, to build friendships and reduce feelings of loneliness.
In your volunteer role you will be paired with an aging senior to provide them regular social support visits in their home. Activities during your visit are based on yours and your clients interests and could include conversation, playing board games, listening to music or sharing stories. Get to know someone new and make a difference in your local community!
**Our Client:**
This individual lives at home with her husband in Torquay. Now in her 60s this individual is seeking to get to know someone new to play board games, cards and billiards not sure how to play? They will teach you! Your visits will help to maintain her community links and reach her goals. With some fun and laughter along the way!
Bring joy, engage in conversations, and provide meaningful companionship.
In order to support this individual, it is important that you are aware that no mobile phone/smart devices can enter her home as they are electrically sensitive. They also possess an auditory processing disorder which can make it difficult to understand people, so clear communication must be used.

**About You:**
* Lives in and around Torquay or happy to travel.
* Possess clear communication skills
* Compassionate, patient and an excellent listener
* Passionate about giving back to your community
* Conducts yourself with open-mindedness and respect, ensuring the privacy, confidentiality, and dignity of our clients is always maintained
* Comfortable using technology to provide feedback and connect with the Volunteer Program
* Availability for a flexible six-month commitment
**Time Commitment:**
2 hours per week or fortnight, between 9:00am - 5:00pm.
