New Edge Microbials is seeking a Production Microbiologist who is keen to step beyond the laboratory and take a hands‐on role across all aspects of large‐scale fermentation and biological product manufacturing.
This role is actively involved in day‐to‐day production operations, supporting the standardisation of practices, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and embedding a strong quality‐first mindset across the business.
The ideal candidate will bring practical experience in fermentation or biological production environments, demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, and enjoy being hands‐on across manufacturing operations. You will be reliable, well organised, and have a high level of attention to detail.
This position is ideally suited to someone seeking day‐shift hours, typically 7:00am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday.
Job Description Overview:
The Microbiologist role is responsible for carrying out all technical production activities related to microbial fermentation and downstream processing within a quality‐controlled biological manufacturing environment.
The role requires a combination of scientific understanding, aseptic technique, practical fermentation expertise, and strong mechanical aptitude, along with the flexibility to support production across multiple operational areas.
The Microbiologist will ensure all activities are completed safely, accurately, and in full compliance with quality requirements, maintaining SOPs and risk assessments across fermentation, production autoclave, sharps handling, and freeze‐drying areas.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Fermentation Operations
Plan, execute, and technically oversee end‐to‐end microbial fermentation processes, including preparation, sterilisation, inoculation, monitoring, and completion of production batches within a biological manufacturing environment.
Downstream Processing
Set up, sterilise, operate, and maintain downstream processing equipment required for product manufacture, including centrifuges and freeze dryers.
