Position summary

Working with a high level of autonomy and exercising legislated delegations, the Assistant Director, Efficacy and Safety makes sound scientific decisions based on their professional judgement. This involves utilising the specialist expertise within their team and a comprehensive knowledge of the APVMA’s operational policy and legislative framework in order to evaluate and mitigate risks.

Our Ideal Candidate / Selection criteria
To be considered for these roles you will need the following essential criteria:
Highly developed leadership skills, including the ability to build internal technical capacity and influence external service provider quality.
Agility in responding to dynamic priorities and timeframes, ensuring quality and managing deadlines.
Demonstrated success in driving innovative approaches and implementing change within a specialist area.
The ability to exercise sound judgement in regulatory decision-making, with holistic framing of scientific assessment, uncertainty, risk and regulatory objectives.
High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and confidently with clients, staff and service providers. Ability to build and sustain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in overseeing the interpretation and evaluation of scientific information. Ability to evaluate, provide pragmatic advice and make decisions based on complex information.
Tertiary qualifications in agronomy, plant pathology, entomology or another relevant scientific discipline.
The following desirable criteria will also be assessed:
Experience working in and/or knowledge of Australia’s agvet chemical regulatory scheme or a similar chemical management scheme.
Familiarity with contemporary best practice in Australian crop protection systems.
A relevant postgraduate qualification is highly desirable.
