Step into a senior role at the heart of a large, purpose-led organisation with a diverse and complex operating environment. This 12-month fixed term opportunity offers real influence—partnering with a range of portfolios and business leaders to shape a respectful, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture.
As Director, Workplace Relations, you’ll lead the delivery of expert workplace and industrial relations advice across a broad internal client base—spanning multiple divisions and functional portfolios. You’ll be trusted to handle the most sensitive and complex matters, build manager capability, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to support consistent, fair and timely outcomes.
You’ll join a highly capable people and culture function with a mature ER/IR practice, where your leadership will help shape strategy, coach others, and ensure service delivery aligns with organisational values and obligations.
Your remit will include:
* Leading a team of two highly committed and capability Workplace Relations practitioners team and promoting staff wellbeing in a high-integrity, trauma-informed practice environment
* Leading complex case management across a large, unionised and regulated workforce
* Advising on employee relations strategy and delivering pragmatic, risk-aware guidance to senior stakeholders
* Representing the organisation in formal proceedings and managing union relationships with professionalism and purpose
* Coaching HR business partners and operational leaders across multiple portfolios on managing complex people issues
* Uplifting internal capability and embedding best practice in dispute resolution and workplace conduct
* Driving process improvements and policy alignment through a proactive and client-focused lens
About you:
You’re a confident, strategic advisor with deep expertise in workplace relations and a track record of leading in dynamic, multi-stakeholder environments. You bring balance—able to zoom out to shape systemic change, and zoom in to resolve complex individual matters with fairness and discretion.
To be successful, you’ll offer:
* Significant HR/IR experience with strength in employee relations strategy and case management
* Experience leading a small but highly capable team
* Experience engaging with a wide variety of portfolios and stakeholders in large or matrixed environments
* Strong industrial knowledge, including enterprise agreement interpretation and union engagement
* A practical, coaching style that builds confidence and trust in others
* Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence across all organisational levels
* Tertiary qualifications in HR, Law, Industrial Relations or a related discipline
