About the role
As a Commis Chef at Stamford Grand Adelaide you will play an important part in delivering exceptional dining experiences to our guests. Working closely with our experienced kitchen team you will assist with food preparation, cooking and presentation across a variety of sections. This role is a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow and develop your skills in a supportive and professional environment.
Responsibilities
* Preparing meal ingredients, washing, peeling, chopping vegetables and fruits.
* Preparing basic salads and sauces as directed by the Executive Chef.
* Receiving deliveries and verifying ordered items have been delivered and are of good quality.
* Taking inventory of restaurant supplies and notifying the Executive Chef of low or depleted supplies.
* Discarding all expired and spoiled food items stored in the stock rooms, refrigerators and freezers.
* Performing cleaning duties and ensuring that workstations are properly sanitised.
* Plating and presenting meal items as per the Executive Chef's instructions.
* Understanding the need to oversee relevant costs including labour, food and operational expenses.
* Being reliable and self‑motivated with a strong work ethic.
* Upholding strict health, hygiene and safety standards.
* Planning and managing food quantities and plating requirements for the food operation.
About you
* Qualifications in Commercial Cookery / Culinary Arts from a registered training provider.
* Proven hospitality hotels kitchen experience.
* Ability to lift, push and pull large objects up to 50lbs (23 kg) and to bend and kneel.
* Good reading, writing and basic maths.
* Having a natural positive demeanour, able to communicate clearly in English.
* Proven ability to work well under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
* Willingness to work collaboratively within a multicultural diverse team.
* Flexible to work a rotating roster including weekends and public holidays.
* Comprehensive knowledge of kitchen hygiene and WH&S standards.
* Demonstrated experience working in a 4‑ or 5‑star hotel (desirable).
* Ability to work unrestricted in Australia with full working rights.
