We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Archerfield-based team. This role plays a key leadership function in the design, development, and continuous improvement of heavy mining equipment, working closely with our in-house manufacturing team to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and production-ready.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:
Engineering Design & Technical Authority
* Lead the design and development of heavy mechanical systems for mining applications
* Act as technical authority for complex mechanical and hydraulic systems
* Ensure designs meet performance, safety, durability, and maintainability requirements
* Review and approve engineering drawings, models, and calculations
* Apply and interpret relevant Australian Standards and engineering best practice
Advanced Analysis & Validation
* Conduct and validate FEA to support structural integrity and design optimisation
* Perform engineering calculations, design checks, and risk assessments
* Oversee prototype testing, performance validation, and failure analysis
Project & Design Leadership
* Lead mechanical design activities within multidisciplinary project teams
* Develop engineering scopes, design plans, and technical deliverables
* Manage design timelines, milestones, and technical risks
* Liaise directly with clients and stakeholders to clarify requirements and present solutions
Manufacturing Integration
* Work closely with production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and efficient
* Provide engineering support during fabrication, assembly, and commissioning
* Identify opportunities to improve product design for manufacturing efficiency and cost control
Hydraulic & Control Systems
* Design and review hydraulic circuits, component selection, and system integration
* Support integration of ELV control systems with mechanical equipment
* Troubleshoot and improve field performance of hydraulic and mechanical systems
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
* Identify product performance improvements and cost-reduction opportunities
* Drive engineering standardisation and design best practices
* Support R&D initiatives and new product development
Mentoring & Knowledge Sharing
* Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and designers
* Support development of internal engineering standards and documentation
* Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning
Qualifications & Experience
* 10+ years 3D modelling experience using SolidWorks and PDM systems
* 8+ years experience in heavy mechanical equipment design
* Strong experience applying relevant Australian Standards
* Advanced capability in interpreting and validating FEA
* Deep understanding of heavy fabrication and manufacturing processes
* Extensive knowledge of hydraulic systems and circuit design
* Experience with ELV control systems integration
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills
* Proven ability to lead engineering design projects
* High attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality
* Strong communication skills and ability to engage with clients and workshop teams
* Must have full Australian working rights
