City Planning and Economic Development Services develops strategic planning policy, economic strategies, quality urban design creative outcomes and key legislation including the Brisbane City Plan 2014. Monitoring Brisbane's growth under the Brisbane City Plan 2014 and South East Queensland Regional Plan is critical for making the future of the city happen, aligned to the themes of Brisbane Vision 2031.

The Role
As an Urban Planner (Band 4) with Brisbane City Council, you'll play a hands‐on role in shaping the future of one of Australia's fastest‐growing cities. Working within Development Services, this role sits at the frontline of planning and development assessment - balancing great customer service with sound, sustainable planning outcomes. You'll assess development applications, provide pre‐lodgement advice, interpret planning legislation, and contribute to governance and appeals, all while working collaboratively across Council and with industry, community members and government stakeholders.
This is a developmental, career‐building role designed to grow with you. You'll gain exposure across Planning Services and Development Assurance, build strong technical and stakeholder engagement skills, and be supported to progress as your capability develops. To be successful you will have
* a strong foundation in urban planning and the ability to apply legislation, policy and best‐practice planning principles to real‐world development proposals
* excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence providing clear, professional advice to customers, stakeholders and internal partners
* proven ability to manage competing priorities and workflows in a fast‐paced, customer‐focused environment while meeting performance targets
