About the Role
As an Experienced Detention Service Officer at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre (YHIDC) in Northam, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a secure, respectful, and supportive environment for detainees and staff. This is a meaningful opportunity for individuals committed to safety, professionalism, and upholding the dignity of others.
You'll work as part of a tight‐knit team, rotating across operational posts and responding to priority needs throughout the centre.
Key Responsibilities
Engage directly with detainees, promoting a culture of safety, respect, and dignity.
Conduct searches, security checks, and monitor CCTV and alarm systems.
Respond to emergencies and critical incidents with calm and professionalism.
Complete headcounts, welfare checks, and detailed incident reporting.
Support operational efficiency by assisting in high‐priority areas as required.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking individuals who are already qualified and experienced in detention services and who are committed to making a difference.
To be eligible for this role, you must hold one of the below:
* Cert III ImmigrationDetention Operations (CSC30219 or later)
* Cert III Correctional Practice (CSC30119 or later)
* Cert III SecurityOperations (CPP31318 or later)
What We Offer
Paid Training Program: 1‐week Bridging Course from 08/06/2026 to 12/06/2026 at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre in Northam completing full‐time, paid training that equips you with everything you need to step confidently into the role.
Attractive Base Rate: Earn a base rate of $37.54 per hour plus penalties.

About You
Prior experience working in an immigration detention, custodial or security environment
High level of integrity and professionalism
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Sound judgment and the ability to stay calm under pressure
Competency in conflict resolution and de‐escalation techniques
Basic computer literacy and accurate report writing skills
Full working rights in Australia
Ability to pass pre‐employment checks including an Australian Federal Police Check and Medical Assessment with a Fitness test and Drug & Alcohol screen
Ability to commence employment on 8th of June 2026
