* Exciting opportunity to play a key role supporting the Fish Seascapes Project
* Fieldwork to take place within Greater Sydney and Jervis Bay coastal areas
* Base Salary $89,755 + 17% superannuation
About the project
This position will work as part of the ARC Linkage funded Project (LP230100262) "Assessing fish connectivity across highly modified seascapes". This project aims to quantify the effects of large-scale infrastructure on fish connectivity and populations by advancing our understanding of critical ecological processes within these modified coastal seascapes.
The project expects to generate new knowledge in the area of fish seascape ecology and management using an innovative approach which considers data from all life history stages including larval fish sampling, baited remote underwater video and acoustic tracking. These data will be used in a metapopulation modelling context to better predict the effects of habitat modifications and loss or alteration of natural habitats. This should provide significant benefits by allowing assessment of development and management actions before they take place, supporting long-term planning.
About the opportunity
As the Research Assistant, you will support the lead CIs in the overall organisation of the project and its team and will play a major role in data collection, processing and analysis. You will be expected to organise and lead field campaigns to collect data and will be involved in the processing of that data. This position will typically be involved in running small teams to support student project fieldwork. In this position you will also have the opportunity to be involved to various levels with data analysis and writing of outputs.

* prioritise and coordinate health and safety activities, including safety drills and risk management in daily operations
* plan and lead coastal fieldwork, organise logistics, maintain field equipment, and ensure safety and ethics compliance
* assist with data collection and analysis, process biological data, and coordinate accurate reporting and documentation of research outputs.
