Job Title: Environmental/Sustainability Officer
About Us:
The Brixton Blog Big Smoke is championing a sustainable green agenda for the SW1 area, aiming to become the leader in developing sustainable business environments through retrofitting of green and blue infrastructure and managing carbon footprints. We work closely with public and private sector partners to drive positive change in attitudes towards the environment and develop the physical landscape around Victoria.
Job Summary:
We are looking for an exceptional individual to help drive forward our green agenda. The successful candidate will manage and develop projects that promote sustainability within SW1, contributing to the planning and implementation of strategic 'blue and green infrastructure' programmes, developing public realm enhancements, and managing recycling schemes and carbon reduction initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Contribute to the planning and implementation of strategic 'blue and green infrastructure' programmes.
* Develop a program of public realm enhancements in conjunction with partners.
* Develop research programs to monitor the impact of GI projects and raise the profile of our work.
* Manage recycling schemes and carbon reduction initiatives.
* Build sustainable partnerships with communities, business networks, and local government.
* Bid for local, national, and European funding to deliver larger scale projects.
* Advise local businesses on consultation documents related to GI and policies.
* Commission consultants and contractors for major projects and manage them effectively.
* Work to established key performance indicators and targets.
Requirements:
* Degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
* Comprehensive knowledge of environmental sustainability, carbon reduction, and climate change.
* Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
* Able to manage a budget and secure external funding.
* Report writing skills and people management experience.
* Ability to adapt to new priorities and additional tasks.
* Strong team player with flexible multitasking skills.
* Maintain effective relations with stakeholders, including local business, external agencies, senior managers, and internal colleagues.
* Exercise analysis and judgment to shape improvements.
