We are growing our internal development team and are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain data solutions that support our clients' analytics and reporting needs.
About the Role
You will join our internal development and platforms team, focusing on developing and supporting data pipelines, ingestion processes, and analytics environments for our in-house and client-facing solutions. The role involves hands-on data engineering, troubleshooting production issues, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver scalable data architectures. You will balance ongoing support for our existing client base with project-based enhancements and new implementations.
Candidates must have valid Australian work rights to be eligible for this position.
Key responsibilities include:
* Designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines using tools like Azure Data Factory (ADF) or similar ETL/ELT frameworks
* Ingesting and transforming data from various sources, including APIs, databases, and flat files
* Developing and optimising SQL-based data models, with a focus on star schema designs for analytics and reporting
* Creating and supporting Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards for client and internal use
* Providing support and troubleshooting for existing data environments, ensuring high availability and performance
* Collaborating with clients and internal teams to gather requirements, implement solutions, and perform data quality checks
* Working within Azure DevOps (boards, repos, pipelines) for source control, CI/CD, and task tracking
* Following established IT support and change management processes
* Writing clear technical documentation and release notes
Skills and Experience – Must Have
* At least 2+ years of commercial experience as a Data Engineer or similar role
* Strong SQL skills, including query optimisation, stored procedures, and complex data manipulation
* Proficiency in Python for data processing, scripting, and automation
* Good understanding of star schema data modelling for dimensional analytics
* Experience with SQL Server Data Warehouse (DW); any exposure to Microsoft Fabric is highly regarded
* Hands-on experience with data ingestion from APIs, relational databases, and other sources
* Practical knowledge of data pipelines or Azure Data Factory (ADF) for ETL/ELT processes
* Minimum 1 year of experience with Azure Data Factory or similar ETL/ELT tools is required
* Experience in Power BI development, including data modelling, DAX, and report deployment
* Proven ability to support existing client data environments, including troubleshooting and maintenance
* Comfortable working in Azure DevOps (Git repositories, pipelines, work items)
* Good communication skills – able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and clients
* Disciplined in following IT support and change management processes
* Self-starter with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset, ready to balance client support and project delivery
Skills and Experience – Nice to Have
* Experience with Snowflake for cloud data warehousing
* Exposure to Microsoft Copilot Studio for building AI-assisted data workflows
* Familiarity with AI Foundry tools or platforms for advanced analytics and AI integration
* Knowledge of additional Azure services (e.g., Synapse Analytics, Data Lake) or other data tools like Databricks
