We are actively hiring for a Data Center Support / Smart Hands Engineer role in Toowoomba, Australia.
Role Overview
This position focuses on providing onsite data center support along with end‐user computing assistance. The role involves hands‐on work with servers, storage, networking equipment, and coordination with remote infrastructure teams to ensure smooth data center operations.
Key Responsibilities
Data Center Operations
* Perform smart hands support for servers, storage, and network devices
* Rack, stack, cable, commission, and decommission hardware (Dell, HPE, Cisco)
* Troubleshoot hardware issues and replace components (disks, memory, power supplies)
* Monitor environmental conditions (power, cooling, humidity) and elevate alerts
* Maintain DC inventory, asset tracking, documentation, and logbooks
* Support backup tape rotation and storage management
* Ensure compliance with DC safety, cabling, and cleanliness standards
* Conduct physical site surveys and manage storeroom activities
Smart Hands & Coordination
* Work closely with remote infrastructure teams for incident resolution
* Coordinate with third‐party vendors and escort them within the data center
* Follow SOPs, maintenance schedules, and customer change management processes
* Provide hands & feet support for server/network troubleshooting
End User & Device Support
* Install and manage laptops, desktops, Macs, printers, and peripherals
* Perform workstation setup, OS installation, and software configuration
* Support Virtual Desktop Interfaces (VDI) at endpoint level (SOP‐based)
* Handle printer installations and basic application support
* Configure Windows OS firewall as per client guidelines
eWaste & Asset Management
* Perform secure device wipe using client‐provided tools
* Manage asset disposal lifecycle and coordinate vendor pickups
* Maintain secure storage for retired devices
Required Skills & Experience
* Minimum 3+ years of combined experience in Data Center Support / EUC / Deskside Support
* Strong knowledge of Windows OS, MS Office, and Active Directory
* Experience with server hardware (Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant)
* Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VLANs, structured cabling CAT5/6)
* Familiarity with ticketing tools like ServiceNow, Remedy, or Jira
* Understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management)
Preferred Certifications
* CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+
* Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator
* Dell EMC / HPE certifications
Soft Skills
* Strong troubleshooting and problem‐solving abilities
* Effective communication and documentation skills
* Ability to work independently and in team environments
* Flexibility for shift work or on‐call support
