Overview
Visiting Medical Officer Cardiologist, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital (TRRH). Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is seeking a suitably qualified cardiologist to join a growing regional cardiology service. This role suits a clinician who can practise independently, contribute to a broad general cardiology workload, and help shape contemporary services across both inpatient and outpatient care. Mentoring opportunities are available for young consultants, and senior consultants are also welcome to apply. Applicants may bring a wide range of interests and procedural skills.
The position can be tailored to the successful applicant's scope of practice and development goals, with opportunities to consolidate existing skills and expand practice over time.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
* Participate in the cardiology and acute care roster, including on-call responsibilities and weekend ward rounds as required.
* Provide comprehensive outpatient cardiology care for Tamworth and surrounding communities, with the option to deliver services through public outpatient clinics and/or private consulting rooms.
* Develop a mixed public-private practice supported by an established referral base.
* Join a collegial team of four local cardiologists and collaborate with a broad specialist workforce at TRRH.
* Maintain close clinical links with tertiary Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery services in Newcastle to enable shared care, streamlined referral pathways, and specialist-to-specialist collaboration.
* Engage in teaching and leadership activities, mentoring junior medical officers and cardiology advanced trainees, and working within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining high standards of independent clinical practice.
* Contribute to acute cardiology exposure through the hospital's Coronary Care Unit (CCU), ICU, and on-site cardiac catheterisation laboratory, enabling genuine acute coronary and procedural pathways in a regional setting.
Requirements and Qualifications
Mandatory Requirements Of This Role Include
* Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD
* Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and while on-call, including clinical handover, supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD
* Provision of education and research as determined and required by HNELHD
* A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Cardiology), and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
* Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in Cardiology
* Evidence of being a scholar, maintaining medical professional development and ability to assist other staff, including trainees in knowledge development
* Evidence of being a skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, with patients, students, other health professionals and the public
* Evidence of being a collaborator, including ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and work with other stakeholders in various settings
* Evidence of being a manager, including flexibility and adaptability to a changing health system, with leadership and safety/quality improvement experience
* Evidence of being a professional, including ongoing professional development, peer review and other forms of clinical governance
* Evidence of being an advocate, including contributions to improving individual and societal health
Additional Information
There are strong opportunities to develop a mixed public-private practice, supported by an established referral base. The service sits within a wider network across Hunter New England, with escalation and shared care links to tertiary services in Newcastle, including John Hunter Hospital for cardiothoracic surgery and higher complexity cases.
