About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world's largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose
The Technical Services Manager provides strategic leadership and direction to the Technical Services team at Newmont's Lihir operation. The role ensures all short-, medium- and long‐term technical strategies, departmental KPIs, resourcing plans and budgets are effectively developed and executed to support Mining operations in meeting production and processing requirements safely, efficiently, and at the lowest cost.
Essential Duties
Lead, direct and manage the Technical Services team to deliver all departmental targets, KPIs and strategic objectives.Develop mid‐ to long‐term departmental plans, initiatives and change programs aligned to overall business goals.Oversee the preparation, implementation and monitoring of technical strategies that support production and processing requirements.Review departmental financial data and performance results to identify opportunities for improvement, risk reduction and cost production targets and drive the team to achieve successful outcomes.Ensure effective management of budgets, cost controls and resource strong, positive leadership that fosters collaboration across the Mining department and wider and maintain productive relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders across a wide range of disciplines.Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental and regulatory requirements, and promote a culture of safe, responsible continuous improvement through the use of KPIs, analytics and performance insights.
Training & Experience
Tertiary bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering; postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.15+ years' experience in Surface Mining with demonstrated technical and leadership capability.Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence across multiple organisational levels.Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost management and performance analysis.High level of energy, commitment and resilience, with the ability to manage complex operational challenges.Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to relate effectively to senior leaders and the broader workforce.
