This is a fixed term, full-time position commencing January 2026 up until the end of June 2028

Statewide Services division of the Department of Education is responsible for the central portfolios that deliver support services to students and schools across the state to improve educational outcomes for all students. This includes closely collaborating with regions to ensure there is statewide integration of support to schools and students delivered through regional networks, providing policy advice, allocating resources, and monitoring programs and services to ensure high standards.

Within Statewide Services division, the Secondary, District High Schools and Post School Pathways Directorate is responsible for the statewide delivery of services and support to schools and networks to:

improve the quality of secondary classroom instruction develop the professional capacity of secondary teachers and secondary curriculum leaders implement evidence-based approaches to improving teaching and learning in all public schools provide professional learning to improve understanding of careers (including the delivery of career conversation events),data literacy and secondary educational programs oversight of policies related to secondary education ensuring secondary science laboratories are safe and supportive of science education and administration of secondary scholarships, competitions and statewide education-related promotions

The Role

Within the Secondary, District High Schools and Post School Pathways directorate, the Regional Learning Specialist (RLS) project supports students who are:

located at regional schools enrolled through the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) studying ATAR English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS).

The RLS supplements the online classes provided by their SIDE teacher by providing senior secondary students with:

face-to-face tuition online fortnightly tutorials exam revision seminars.

The RLS team also build the capacity of less experienced regional teachers of ATAR courses by sharing:

curriculum expertise exemplary teaching and learning practices.

This role includes significant travel across the state, which applicants must be able to commit to. Applicants should ideally hold a valid WA Drivers Licence.

The successful applicant should be an expert with demonstrated high level ATAR results and a passionate teacher of English, committed to excellence in teaching and learning. They should have the professional knowledge, understanding, and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school English curriculum. The successful applicant should be flexible, willing to work collaboratively with staff and possess strong interpersonal skills to allow connection across school communities to achieve the best outcomes for all students. Experience in teaching Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) English and/or Literature will be highly regarded.
