Primary objective
Provide an emergency response and Switchboard reception function at Alice Springs Hospital working 24/7 rotating roster with
participating team-members.
Context statement
Applicants must be prepared to work a full-time rotating shift work roster, work independently, make decisions based on implemented
protocols in diverse situations, and use sound judgement to find solutions to issues as and when they arise
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide immediate response to various internal and external emergency situations executing appropriate actions in accordance with
emergency codes used within ASH, whilst maintaining a calm, methodical, and logical approach.
2. Participate in a 24/7 rotating roster.
3. Compliance with Approved Guidelines & Policies for Switchboard Operational Procedures.
1. Monitor alarms from various hospital systems and promptly notify the appropriate personnel to ensure critical events are addressed
in a timely manner.
5. Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and adhere to Workplace Health Safety (WHS) Standards.
6. Provide a friendly, professional and respectful front-line service at ASH Switchboard.
7. Support team members individually and as a group.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, WHS policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high
quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability working under pressure in a fast-paced & busy service department, managing competing priorities while
maintaining strong attention to detail and possess high quality standards managing competing priorities.
2. Demonstrated sound diction, interpersonal and communication skills including cross-cultural sensitivity when dealing with clients and
colleagues.
3. Demonstrated experience effectively managing challenging enquiries in a calm and professional manner.
4. Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying relevant policies and procedures, including privacy and confidentiality
requirements.
5. Proven experience using Microsoft suite e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word & other similar administrative documentation, with the ability to
quickly learn and adapt to various software applications
6. Proven ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, remain composed under pressure, and adapt to
operate in an unpredictable environment.
7. High level of self-management to work independently and within a team in an essential frontline service environment.
8. Commitment to working across a 24/7 rotating shift roster.
9. Demonstrated ability to respond calmly and appropriately to emergency situations arising in a fast-paced environment.
1. Demonstrated well developed written and oral communication skills with the ability to interpret complex rosters or similar.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of medical terminology or experience in health care service operations.
