We are looking for a Junior Operational Chemist who will play a role in managing waste in and out of our recently upgraded facility in Laverton. You will ensure compliance with our EPA licence and Dangerous Goods requirements, environmental regulations and contribute to the safe and efficient operation of our operations. Note some work may be required for a short time in Campbellfield whilst onboarding.
The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will be able to apply their chemical knowledge and skills to identify, analyse and simulate operational processes and manage the outgoing waste to the various disposal locations.
You must be capable of working with minimal oversight and willing to follow directions closely to ensure minimal storage time onsite.
Responsibilities and Duties:Reporting to the Technical Manager your key responsibilities will include:
* Chemical Sorting and segregation: Check incoming waste chemicals to identify and sort for compatibility during consolidation and treatment by warehouse operators.
* Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements for handling, storage, and disposal of waste chemicals through labelling, segregation and good housekeeping.
* Waste Disposal: Ensure timely movement of waste to end point treatment facilities.
* Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste generation.
* Documentation: Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing waste chemicals. Prepare manifests for offsite disposal.
* Safety: Promote a culture of safety by following best practices and protocols for handling hazardous chemicals.
* Other duties as required
Qualifications and Education
You have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field (or currently studying for this course) along with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ideally you will have experience in waste management, or environmental compliance along with knowledge of relevant regulations such as EPA guidelines for hazardous waste management.
