Job Overview
AECOM seeks a motivated Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer for its Civil Infrastructure, Geotechnical Engineering and Tunnelling Team based in South‐East Queensland. The role supports projects across infrastructure, transportation, water, dams, buildings, energy and environment sectors throughout Queensland, Australia, New Zealand, and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, coordinate and undertake geotechnical site investigations, including drilling supervision, sampling, and in‐situ testing.
* Conduct soil profiling and rock core logging per Australian Standard AS 1726:2017.
* Collect and manage soil and rock samples; coordinate laboratory testing programs.
* Prepare factual and interpretive reports.
* Perform desktop studies, data review, interpretation, and technical documentation.
* Communicate effectively with clients, contractors and project teams to resolve geotechnical challenges.
* Assist with tender submissions, scope development and preliminary cost estimates.
* Support geotechnical analyses for foundations, slope stability, pavement designs, earthworks and other geo‐structures.
* Ensure work complies with relevant standards, guidelines and safety procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
* 2–10 years in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering, ideally within a consulting environment.
* Relevant tertiary degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline; professional registration or working towards RPGeo, CPEng or RPEQ (or eligible through mutual recognition).
* Willingness to undertake regular fieldwork and travel when required.
* Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, slope stability and site investigation practices.
* Familiarity with geotechnical software such as OpenGround / gINT, Rocscience, GeoStudio, PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, Leapfrog or similar, and AutoCAD.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Current Class C driver's licence.
