Peppers Silo Hotel is an inspiring $30 million redevelopment of the Kings Wharf grain silos in Launceston, Tasmania. The nine-storey hotel consists of 108 rooms, including 52 in the barrels of the former silos, and overlooks Seaport, Royal Park, the Tamar River Basin and Cataract Gorge. Ground floor features include Silo Day Spa, and Level 1 offers Grain of the Silos dining experiences across the restaurant, café and Woody's Bar, with local produce at the heart of all creations. Launceston is the largest city in northern Tasmania and a gastronomic hub with wineries, distilleries, markets and art galleries to explore during your downtime.
Purpose
As our Commis Chef, you will play a pivotal role in our team, learning from our experienced senior chefs, showcasing your love for food, creative spark, and strong teamwork abilities to collaborate on dishes that leave a lasting impression.
Responsibilities
* Ensuring that food presented to guests aligns with property standards and is served within designated timeframes, while maintaining high quality and presentation
* Adhering to local health, safety, and compliance regulations, with a solid grasp of HACCP management
* Ensure accuracy, consistency, and efficiency in preparing food items
* Receive ongoing training and guidance from senior chefs
* Handle a range of kitchen tasks, from dishwashing to crafting delectable dishes
Skills & Experience
* Possession of recognised culinary training and employment experience
* A commercial cookery certification and preferably a safe food handling certificate or food safety supervisor
* Ambition, raw talent, and a passion for food
* Open to feedback and willing to experiment with new ideas
* Thriving in a fast-paced team environment
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
* Flexible availability for shifts, including mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required
