The opportunity
Due to internal secondment, we're seeking an experienced Waste Education Officer to join our Waste Services team on a contract basis until the end of March 2026.
Our Waste Education Officer works alongside our Waste Project Officers, supporting the community of Port Stephens through education around best waste practices and waste minimisation programs. Alongside a high level of customer service, you'll utilise your skills through community engagement to coordinate and promote all community clean up events within the Port Stephens LGA, as well as design and implement innovative educational programs and materials that engage the wider community.
Please note; interviews for this position will be held on Friday, 8 August 2025, candidates who are successful in progressing will be notified of an interview time on Thursday, 7 August 2025.
* This is a contract opportunity – working full-time 35 hours / week + access to a flexible working arrangement
* Base Salary Range: $73,236 to $86,085 pa based on 35 hours / week + 12% superannuation + $2,312 retention allowance + motor vehicle allowance
* You will be working from PSC Administration Building, Raymond Terrace

* Identify key stakeholders to which waste education programs should be targeted
* Coordinate the program of kerbside bin auditing and subsequent education of residents based on findings
* Address and engage with Council, local businesses, community groups, service clubs, and other organisations regarding waste program initiatives

* Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in project management, education, customer service, waste management or demonstrated equivalent
* A valid WWCC or ability to obtain prior to commencement
* Demonstrated experience in developing, coordinating, and implementing education programs and other initiatives to improve sustainability practices
* Effective communication skills and an ability to interact and liaise with all levels of staff and members of the community
* Experience in preparing applications for funding bodies and demonstrated success in this area
