Role

A rare and exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Charge Up/Service Crew to join the Underground Mining team.

Reporting to the Underground Shift Supervisor, the Shotfirer is responsible for:

- Ensure and promote the maintenance of safety standards by completing and complying with all relevant JSAs, risk assessments, Stepbacks and other safety procedures.

- Collaborate with the Mine Foreman, Underground Shift Supervisor and Drill & Blast Engineers to ensure the drill and blast activities are executed safely, successfully and efficiently.

- Set out and fire shots in accordance with the approved Drill and Blast plan.

- Ensure that drill plans and shot reports are completed and submitted to the Mine Foreman.

- Assist Engineers with blast designs and productivity control measures.

- Maintain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of all drill and blast related contracts and project specifications.

- Submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports to meet the requirements of the Mining Superintendent’s specifications.

- Maintain an organised filing system and ensure all auditable information is properly filed and easily accessible.

- Maintain regular and effective communication and feedback with the Shift Supervisor and colleagues
- Ensure all safety and operational documentation is completed neatly, accurately and in a timely manner
- Ensure operations are conducted in compliance with the site's Planning Permit and Mining Licence Conditions and any additional imposed operating limits.

- Complete all paperwork to a high standard.

- Conduct inspections of the work area to ensure adequate ventilation and confirm the area is safe to commence work.

- Ensure the workplace is cleaned and tidied upon job completion.

- Ensure pre-starts are conducted on equipment and any faults are reported to Maintenance and Shift Supervisor.

- Carry out the installation of mine services and perform daily mining tasks safely and in compliance with mine standards
- Ensure clear and concise communications with all operators during shift changeovers including a thorough handover to the incoming Service Crew to ensure they are fully informed of events, ongoing activities and requirements for the upcoming shift.

About You:

To be successful in the role, you will possess:

Mandatory:

- Valid and current Victorian “Blasting Explosives” license (Black Ticket)
- 3+ years previous experience in Underground mining as the designated Shotfirer.

- Experience and qualifications suitable to carry out the statutory responsibilities of executing drill and blast activities.

- Very high standard of safety focus, and observance and compliance with all safety policies and procedures
- Victorian C-Class Driver’s licence
- Have or can successfully obtain a Senior First Aid certificate, Oxy Viva and defibrillator accredited training.

- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal, team building skills and organisational skills
- Excellent oral, listening, and written communication skills
- Experience in working in a narrow-vein mining method
- Residential mine, located centrally in booming Ballarat - live close to home, no more FIFO
