The role
Job Description: Role Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Oracle Data Engineering Lead to spearhead large-scale, complex data transformation initiatives with a heavy emphasis on end-to-end data migration from one of the largest Oracle databases in the world. You will act as subject matter expert to an integrated team of Business Analysts, data engineers, tester, and ensure the seamless, secure, and accurate transfer of critical enterprise data from legacy systems. The solution will be complicated by the real-time nature of the data and numerous integrated agencies that will both read/write into the data (e.g Insurers, Councils, ServiceNSW for applications and renewals, Revenue NSW for fines, Police for realtime roadside checks, CTP insurance cover, Medical providers for fitness reports, and so on). There is near real-time syncronisation of a subset of customers (learners) and drivers with additional conditions on their learner or provisional status (perhaps alcohol interlocks, or other classes, points and conditions). Key Responsibilities • Migration Strategy & Architecture: Define, design, and execute comprehensive data migration strategies from legacy databases (heterogeneous or older Oracle versions) to the target state solution). • Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and best practices in Oracle database development and migration methodologies. • ETL/ELT Pipeline Development: Architect and build scalable, high-performance data pipelines utilizing Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Oracle GoldenGate, and advanced PL/SQL. • Data Quality & Governance: Establish rigorous data validation, reconciliation, and cleansing processes to guarantee zero data loss and maintain the highest levels of data integrity during migrations. • Performance Optimization: Troubleshoot and optimize complex SQL queries, PL/SQL procedures, and database performance bottlenecks before, during, and after the migration cutover. • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with enterprise architects, project managers, business stakeholders, and delivery teams to align technical deliverables with strategic business objectives and timelines. • Security & Compliance: Ensure all data engineering and migration activities strictly adhere to industry compliance standards, data privacy regulations, andenterprise security protocols. • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of model development processes, parameters, and outcomes. • Sensitive Data handling: The data is highly sensitive (identity and filled with PII and SPI) so the highest protection and security of the system is non-negotiable. Required Qualifications & Skills • Experience: 10 years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering, Database Architecture, or Data Warehousing, with at least 3 years in a Lead or Managerial capacity. • Oracle Expertise: Deep, authoritative knowledge of Oracle Database architecture (12c, 19c, 23c), Oracle Exadata, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). • Migration Mastery: Proven track record of successfully leading multiple large-scale enterprise data migration projects. • Tooling: Expert-level proficiency in advanced SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), and Oracle GoldenGate (for real-time data replication and zero-downtime migrations). • Platforms: AWS cloud • Data Modeling: Strong background in relational and dimensional data modeling techniques. • Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues and migration blockers. • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Certifications (e.g., OCI Architect Professional, Autonomous Database Specialist). • Familiarity with Python, shell scripting, or other modern data scripting languages. • Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies. • Experience with 4gl/coolgen technologies nice to have.
