Senior Executive Leadership Role PSSE Band 2

Temporary opportunity up to June 2026

Office location Sydney and Parramatta hybrid working supported

The General Counsel role is the most senior legal position in the NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA). It provides strategic and authoritative advice and recommendations to the NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA) and its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) the Minister for Recovery and the advisory board on the management and conduct of all legal matters practices and services for the RA.

Reporting directly to the CEO the General Counsel sits on the RA Executive Committee and leads the work of the Legal Services team to enable and facilitate the achievement of RA organisational priorities.


Key areas of responsibility include :

* providing high quality and strategic legal advice on the management and conduct of all legal matters developments practices and services for the RA
* providing strategic leadership to a team of professional legal staff to ensure the delivery of legal services that support the operation of the organisation
* providing advice to the advisory board including recommendations on legal risks to support with insights and decision-making
* ensuring that the RA is appropriately represented in tribunals and courts as well as in matters being investigated by the NSW Ombudsman or other independent bodies commissions of inquiry parliamentary committees and Royal Commissions
* overseeing legal compliance across the organisation and providing advice and assessment on areas of legal non-performance
* collaborating across the RA as a member of the Executive Leadership team to help ensure the delivery of quality co-ordinated legal services
* providing oversight of the delivery of external legal advice


About You

To be successful in the role you will have executive level experience in the delivery of legal services for a large and complex organisation and a proven track record at an executive level in people management and strategic leadership within a complex organisation.

Gravitas integrity effective communication collaboration and the ability to deliver results are critical for this role as is the ability to inspire direction and purpose and manage change and reform. The ability to act with autonomy and prudently manage legal resources is also important. Whilst deep legal experience and skills are critical so is the ability to act with efficiency nous and pragmatism.


Superior current knowledge and expertise in at least 2 of the following areas of law :

* Construction law and projects
* Property and compulsory acquisition law
* Administrative law
* Planning and environment
* Commercial and procurement


Essential Requirements

Relevant tertiary qualifications in law and admission as a legal practitioner with an unrestricted practicing certificate.

About the Agency

The RA is a statutory corporation within the NSW Premiers Department. The RA seeks to improve how NSW plans for disasters and help communities to recover from them faster.

To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters the RA will complete critical planning and preparation with communities NGOs businesses and government. When disaster does strike we will get recovery started swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts across agencies communities and other stakeholders.
