Primary objective
Responsible for the provision of high quality, culturally appropriate public health nutrition and clinical dietetic services for
Central Australian remote communities

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop networks and work in partnership with stakeholders to identify, plan, implement and evaluate activities that aim

to improve nutritional status in remote communities.
2. Act as the primary source of specific nutrition knowledge within the local team and with other service providers and

contribute to the professional development of others in the area of nutrition.
3. Provide clinical dietetic services to clients and consultative support in the delivery of clinical services.
4. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
5. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in human nutrition and dietetics and eligibility to hold the Australian Accredited Practising Dietitian credential

with Dietitians Australia.
2. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary team environment and the ability to negotiate and

undertake conflict resolution.
3. Post-graduate experience as a practising dietitian.
4. Demonstrated understanding of food and nutrition issues within a cross-cultural context
5. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing, implementing and evaluating culturally sensitive, evidence based

public health nutrition programs
6. Proven ability to work independently under limited direction, prioritise workload and manage time effectively to meet

deadlines, complete tasks and provide reports.
7. High level written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse range of people from varied

cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
8. Hold or be eligible to obtain a NT drivers licence and ability to travel to remote communities for up to a week at a time

by four wheel drive or light aircraft.

Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualification in a discipline related to public health, health promotion, primary health care, community

development or education.
2. Previous experience working in a remote or regional setting.
3. Previous experience in clinical dietetics and experience in student supervision.
