About The Role
Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.
We are looking for a Reconstruction Superintendent to join the Potroom team.
This is a great opportunity for a confident, proactive, and people-focused leader with a passion for continuous improvement, operational excellence, and team development to make a real impact in a dynamic industrial environment.
We don’t expect you to come with mining or smelting experience – we’ll teach you the technical aspects of the Pot Room and how it operates. What we’re looking for is a strong, people-first leader who can build a high-performing team and foster a positive, safety-focused culture. In return, we offer a supportive work environment and family-friendly roster options, including a 9-day fortnight or a 4-day week (40 hours), to help you balance work and life.
Leading on the frontline is one of the most important jobs in our business and comes with a huge amount of responsibility. We need you to motivate, inspire and keep your people safe and well.
With signature leadership training programmes, growing and developing is more than an opportunity – it is something we actively plan and make happen. Every day our leaders grow, while our rosters are designed to help you live the lifestyle that is right for you and your family.
Reporting to the Manager Potrooms and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Potrooms department, you will:
* Passionately lead, coach, and develop a diverse team of operations personnel to achieve safety, environmental and operational objectives
* Create an interdependent safety culture where teams feel ownership and responsibility for safety striving for continuous improvement
* Support the Bell Bay Management team in achieving the safe and effective execution of all operational functions with a continuous improvement mindset.
* Assign tasks and provide feedback and coaching to leaders and team members, which includes recognising achievements and provision of development plans and performance
* Continue with the RTSPS journey with your team, working towards Best Operator
What You’ll Bring
* A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
* A proven record of delivering great safety leadership and performance.
* An effective visual and engaging leadership style.
* Demonstrated success in leading complex operations teams within a manufacturing or minerals processing environment.
* The ability to coach and develop frontline leaders to be highly effective in engaging and leading their operational teams.
* Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence, build credibility and trust across all levels of the organisation.
* The capacity to problem solve and perform root cause analysis for operational and technical critical issues.
* Ability to manage a large financial budget to plan.
What We Offer
* A 9 day fortnight working roster
* A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
* A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto
* A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive program
* Comprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family
* Attractive share ownership plan
* Company provided insurance cover
* Extensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging options
* Career development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions
* Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing support
* Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave)
* Exclusive employee discounts (banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more)
* Domestic relocation assistance for you and your family
Where you’ll be working
Bell Bay Aluminium holds a unique place in Tasmanian and Australian history as the first aluminium smelter in the southern hemisphere when it began production in 1955. Today, it produces around 190,000 of primary aluminium each year.
The smelter is situated on the Tamar River, approximately five kilometres from George Town and 45 kilometres from Launceston. We employ more than 500 Tasmanians and more than 60 full-time equivalent contractors who, on a typical day, undertake work at the smelter.
For more than 65 years Bell Bay Aluminium has played a significant role in the social and economic wellbeing of George Town and Northern Tasmania through employment, community investment, and using local goods and services. In 2019, the site also received Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certifications, assuring customers the aluminium they purchase has been produced to the highest environmental, social and governance standards.
Applications close on 21st May 2025 (Rio Tinto reserves the right to remove advertised roles prior to this date)
