The Opportunity
Our Criminal Law Practice supports clients across youth summary, indictable, and appellate crime. As a Criminal Administration Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting lawyers and ensuring our clients receive an accessible, efficient, and culturally safe service.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a quick-paced environment, is highly organised, and has strong communication skills – especially when engaging with clients over the phone.
Key Responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact for clients, providing accurate information and linking them with appropriate support.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records through NAAJA’s client management system.
- Assist legal processes by coordinating transport, accommodation, and assessments for clients.
- Prepare court lists and manage files for duty lawyers and bush court services.
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to the criminal law team.
- Carry out other duties as directed within your skillset.
What We’re Looking For
- Understanding of NAAJA’s role and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal peoples (highly desirable).
- Experience with phone systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and data entry.
- Punctual, dedicated, and enthusiastic team player who can work under supervision and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills – written, spoken, and over the phone.
- Initiative and commitment to delivering high-quality client service.
- Experience working in a busy office environment (desirable).
- Ability to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) and pass a satisfactory criminal history check.
- Satisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice
