Senior Rail Systems Engineer – Verification & Validation (V&V;)
We are seeking a Senior Rail Systems Engineer – V&V; to lead Verification & Validation activities across major rail and transport programs. In this role, you will take ownership of V&V; strategy development, assurance planning, and the delivery of high-quality technical outcomes for complex rail systems. You will provide leadership to project teams, mentor junior engineers, and act as a key technical interface with clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of Verification & Validation frameworks, strategies, and plans for complex rail systems.
- Provide senior-level guidance on requirements management, system specification, compliance assessments, and engineering assurance.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of requirements traceability (e.g., DOORS, Jama).
- Manage V&V; activities including design reviews, technical investigations, test readiness reviews, compliance assessments, and validation reporting.
- Conduct high-level analysis of system requirements, design documents, interface specifications, and test evidence.
- Work closely with systems engineering, signalling, rolling stock, and integration teams to ensure alignment of assurance and V&V; activities.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, assurance evidence packs, and system certification artefacts.
- Provide support to safety assurance activities in accordance with applicable rail standards (e.g., EN 50126/8/9, IEC 61508).
- Engage with clients, delivery partners, and stakeholders to communicate progress, resolve issues, and provide technical leadership.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to capability development within the team.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of systems engineering and V&V; methodologies within the organisation.
Skills & Experience Essential:
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Rail Engineering, or equivalent.
- Extensive experience working on rail systems, signalling, control systems, rolling stock, or related transport technologies.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering processes and the V-model, with deep experience in applying V&V; methodologies.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in requirements management, system integration, verification strategies, and validation activities.
- Experience with industry-standard tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, ComplyPro).
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to communicate technical detail clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proven experience preparing and reviewing high-quality technical documents and assurance artefacts.
- Strong problem-solving capability and the ability to provide authoritative advice on technical issues.
Desirable:
- Experience in safety assurance, RAMS, or systems safety engineering.
- Knowledge of Australian rail standards and delivery frameworks.
- Chartered status or working toward CPEng / INCOSE ASEP/CSEP/ESEP.
- Experience within a consulting or advisory environment.
