Mai Wiru is seeking expressions of interest for full-time experienced store managers to run rural community stores across SA (APY Lands) and NT. Applicants may apply individually or as a couple, as stores are often managed as a two-person team.

Store Managers are responsible for the day-to-day running and operation of the store in partnership with the Mai Wiru Team and Store Committee, aiming to maximise profitability while providing a range of healthy food and essential items at affordable prices.

The Store Manager must actively promote healthier choices for Indigenous peoples, ensuring a consistent supply of fresh and healthy products, optimal store placement, and effective ticketing and information flow. It is essential that the Store Manager understands and respects cultural differences within the community and updates Mai Wiru management on business performance, new initiatives, and other issues pertaining to the store and community events.
Accountabilities
Merchandise the store with quality, saleable items, rotating goods and pricing in accordance with policy.
Maintain a clean, tidy retail area with good presentation.
Attend to the needs of new and existing customers.
Develop activities and promotions to meet sales targets.
Encourage and involve Indigenous personnel in the store.
Conduct monthly meetings with Committee members.
Ensure that the excellent financial reputation of Mai Wiru is maintained with external auditors and stakeholders; keep the store within budget, manage cash handling, banking, accurate financial/sales/performance reporting, and monitor income/expenditure.
Effectively manage staff in an efficient, courteous environment that fosters a productive experience for customers and staff alike. Training and mentoring staff is a MUST This includes writing efficient rosters, developing rapport, addressing issues promptly and proactively, and cultivating a positive team environment. Occupational health and safety obligations must be met and appropriate behavior demonstrated in day-to-day work activities.
Required Expertise
Minimum of five years within retail grocery management
Proven leadership skills with mentoring and training experience required
Stock control expertise and proven financial/administrative skills
Knowledge of dealing with various cultural backgrounds
Intermediate computer skills
Certificates / Licences
Tertiary education or Retail Certificate (advantageous)
Manual Driver's Licence
Fork lift licence (required – and must be able to obtain one)
Ochre Card
