Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School in Zuccoli is seeking a reliable, skilled, and proactive Maintenance Officer to join our dedicated school team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that our school grounds and facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for our students, staff, and community.
About the Role
The Maintenance Officer is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of the school's buildings, grounds, and equipment. Working closely with the Principal and Administration team, this role supports the smooth daily operation of the school and contributes to creating an environment that reflects our values of care, respect, and responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out general repairs, maintenance, and minor improvements to school buildings, grounds, and facilities
* Conduct routine inspections and report any safety or maintenance issues
* Maintain gardens, and outdoor spaces to a high standard
* Ensure tools, materials, and maintenance areas are kept safe and organised
* Liaise with contractors and service providers as required
* Incidental cleaning, furniture movement and other related tasks requested by the Principal
* Support the setup and pack down of school events and activities
* Follow all workplace health and safety procedures

Position Description
Core Functions
1. Conduct daily inspections of school maintenance logs and emails, promptly
actioning and recording maintenance requests and assigned tasks.
2. Maintain the school's gardens and outdoor spaces, including; weeding, pruning,
plant care, rubbish collection, and general landscaping to ensure tidy and safe
grounds.
3. Perform day-to-day repairs and preventative maintenance across school facilities,
including minor plumbing, basic electrical tasks (such as changing light bulbs), lock
and gate repairs, gutter/drain cleaning, and small-scale painting.
4. Clean concrete areas, walkways, and stairs as needed, using tools such as
blowers, hoses, and pressure cleaners to ensure a presentable environment.
5. Manage removal and recycling of rubbish and participate in mould removal,
ensuring compliance with environmental standards and health guidelines.
6. Support proactive safety practices by identifying and remedying hazards, checking
and repairing toilets and school equipment, and responding to issues raised by
WHS officers.
7. Liaise with contractors for quotes and safe completion of work, following
procurement policies and supervising adherence to school safety requirements.
8. Move, construct, and dismantle furniture and school equipment as needed and
assist in the setup and pack-down for school events or excursions, while practicing
safe manual handling.
9. Maintain accurate records of all work completed, upkeep a maintenance register,
conduct periodic inspections, and support compliance with cyclical and safety
maintenance schedules.
10. Carry out other duties as directed by the Principal, actively contribute to a culture
of teamwork and safety, and assist with managing external contractors as part of
the broader school operations team.
