Career progression
Due to their experience and training, our graduates can progress their careers very quickly. Eighty‐seven percent of graduates completing the program stay on to be employed by the Queensland Government post‐program. Our graduates' salaries can increase up to $27,000 (based at AO5 level) or more after completing the 2‐year program.

What you'll be doing
Human‐centred design (HCD) is an approach to problem‐solving that places the needs of people at the centre of the process. For government, these people are all of us, the people of Queensland. HCD involves people in all stages of the process—from gathering insights, to exploring many ideas through testing and refining possible solutions, to the evaluation of the effectiveness of the outcome. The HCD graduate will support agencies to integrate and uplift HCD project planning, training activities and implementation of HCD solutions.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities in a HCD role may include:
* assisting team members in the creation and delivery of high‐quality standards for a whole‐of‐government HCD approach
* assisting with research into HCD best practice to inform the design of HCD tools, guides and training offerings
* participating in service design workshops for user experiences for responsive web, apps or other digital interfaces
* translating ideas and concepts into user flows, mock‐up prototypes, style guides
* assisting with the coordination of HCD training courses including planning, enrolments, promotion, setting up, surveying participants collating and reporting data
* supporting HCD projects including planning, stakeholder engagement sessions and idea development
* communicating with key stakeholders regarding HCD initiatives, to reach mutually successful outcomes
* creating content for social media and news channels.
Ideal candidates
Ideal candidates for a HCD role will have:
* a high level of interpersonal and liaison skills
* have empathy and the ability to be innovative and deliver ideas
* strong organisational skills and problem‐solving skills
* ability to analyse and collate information
* effective communication and time‐management skills
* strong project management skills and ability to produce detailed and accurate work including high‐level writing skills.
Technical skills
Understanding of:
* HCD methodologies and modern research techniques

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Digital Graduate Program, you must:
* Have completed (or will complete) a Bachelor's, Graduate Certificate, or Master's degree between January‐2023 and December‐2026. * Hold a degree in one of these fields:
o Information Technology and related fields: Information technology, cloud computing, cyber security, computer science, data analytics, robotics, information management, mathematics, software or systems engineering.
o Emerging Technologies and AI: Artificial intelligence, automation development.
o Strategic Management and Business: Business, marketing, or project management.
o Design and Creative Industries: Web and multimedia design, user experience (UX) or interactive design.
* International students currently residing in Australia must also have:
o Unrestricted working rights in Australia until at least February 2029. This includes:
+ Permanent Residency, citizenship, or work‐related visas (e.g., Temporary Graduate 485 Visa) that permit full‐time, unrestricted work.
+ Evidence of transitioning to unrestricted working rights (if on a bridging visa).
Successful applicants
If you are successful you must:
* relocate to Brisbane (or other Queensland locations) at your own expense.
* be ready to start by February 2027. Earlier start dates may be accommodated based on agency‐specific needs.
