Job Description
West Arnhem Regional Council is looking for a Bereavement Support Assistant to help families and community members after someone has passed away. This role provides caring, respectful and culturally appropriate support to people who are grieving. You will help families understand what support is available and connect them with funeral and bereavement services.
Responsibilities
* Support families, friends and loved ones after a death
* Respect and follow local customs and traditions around death and burial
* Share clear information about funeral and bereavement support services
* Help people connect with community organisations and service providers
* Build respectful relationships with families and community members
* Work safely and follow Council work health and safety procedures
* Complete other reasonable tasks as directed by the Council Services Manager
Essential
* Speak a language commonly used in the community
* Good understanding of local culture and practices
* Ability to work respectfully with the public
* Ability to explain support services to families and loved ones
* Ability to speak English clearly enough to be understood
* Basic reading and writing skills for work records
* Willingness to work indoors and outdoors
* Current
Working with Children Clearance
* Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance)
* National Police Check
* Eligible under the Remote Jobs and Economic Development (RJED) Program
* Willingness to travel to remote communities by 4WD or light aircraft, including overnight stays if required
Desirable
* Experience in community support, aged care, disability or similar work
* Current C Class Driver's Licence
* First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
