Role Overview

We are seeking a Youth Support Specialist to join our team in providing critical support and guidance to young people in custody. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of youth.


About the Role

This role involves working with children and young people to help them achieve their full potential, provide emotional support and mentoring, and assist in creating opportunities for participation and engagement in the community. As a Youth Support Specialist, you will work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and deliver programs that cater to the diverse needs of young people, promoting their social, emotional, and educational growth.


Key Responsibilities

* Maintain a safe and supportive environment for young people in custody, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being at all times.
* Develop and implement strategies to increase the social and life skills of young people, helping them transition into the community and reconnect with their families or suitable care providers.
* Conduct assessments and respond to individual needs of young people, facilitating positive behavior change and rehabilitation through targeted interventions and activities.
* Promote education and opportunities for young people to engage in social, sporting, and cultural activities, enhancing their overall quality of life.

Requirements

* Holds a current Senior First Aid certificate or is willing to obtain one prior to employment.
* Holds a current Australian driver's license (full license, minimum class 'C') and is willing to drive government vehicles during duties.
* Undergoes and maintains a 'suitable' psychological assessment to work at Kurlana Tapa Youth Justice Centre.
* Undertakes relevant medical and functional assessments to ensure safety and suitability to support young people in crisis.
* Gains a National Police Check and Department of Human Services Child Related Employment Screening prior to commencing employment and during employment.
* Available for shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.


Special Conditions

* National Police Check required.
* Employment-related Screening Check required.
* Some out of hours work may be required.
* Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.
* Must hold a current Australian issued driver's licence (equivalent to minimum class C).
