Role description
With a growing pipeline of diverse project work, we have a new opportunity for a Flora Ecologist to join our National Ecology team in Queensland. Join a high‑performing team that puts quality and culture at the forefront, working on both specialist ecology and major infrastructure projects. The role offers the opportunity to work with and be mentored by recognised biodiversity specialists, locally and globally, across specialist and infrastructure projects. The workload is dynamic and varied.
Key responsibilities
* Conduct field surveys
* Analyse environmental impact
* Prepare reports and recommendations for clients, working on conservation and restoration initiatives
Role accountabilities
* Provide technical ecological advice and deliver report deliverables on a range of projects, primarily in QLD and northern NSW, with national and international opportunities.
* Ground‑truth Regional Ecosystems and threatened flora surveys, BioCondition and BAM plots, and other aspects of flora assessment and management.
* Contribute to proposals and undertake business development where applicable.
* Proactively manage projects or deliver project components, ensure quality assurance, and develop client relationships.
Qualifications & Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in ecology or a related degree.
* At least 3 years of consulting experience in botanical surveys within Queensland.
* A strong botany focus, ideally qualified to perform protected plant surveys as per Queensland's DES Flora Survey Guidelines.
* Experience with ground‑truthing Regional Ecosystems and leading BioCondition surveys.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, engaging stakeholders, and presenting findings.
* Strong collaboration skills to work effectively within a team and with multi‑disciplinary professionals.
* Demonstrated impact‑assessment experience within Queensland and Commonwealth legislative systems.
Desirable & favorable experience
* BAM accreditation and/or knowledge of NSW legislation and Plant Community Types.
* Road project experience.
* QLD renewable experience.
* Ability to think outside the box and develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
* Post‑graduate degree in a relevant area.
* Survey/flora experience in NSW (provides flexibility to assist in northern NSW).
