Lead a region-wide partnership to enhance waterway health across the Far North. You are passionate about safeguarding our rivers, estuaries, and reefs while thriving in collaborative environments where science, strategy, and community converge to drive change.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading not-for-profit environmental stewardship organisation at the forefront of natural resource management in the Wet Tropics. We are seeking a strategic and dynamic Executive Officer to lead the Waterways Partnership – a multi-sector collaboration focused on improving the health of freshwater, estuarine, and marine ecosystems.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the development and communication of the Waterways Report Card.
* Manage stakeholder relationships and drive initiatives that contribute to the Reef 2050 Long-term Sustainability plan.
* Work closely with the Independent Chair, Management Committee, and a passionate team to deliver impactful outcomes for waterways.
* Provide secretariat support to committees and communicate scientific information to non-scientific stakeholders.
* Facilitate collaboration with related groups or organisations and build productive relationships across a wide range of sectors.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Experienced in leading complex multi-stakeholder projects.
* Skilled in strategic planning, budgeting, and reporting.
* Knowledgeable about waterway health and natural resource management, particularly in the Great Barrier Reef region.
* Excellent communicator across scientific and non-scientific audiences.
* Proven ability to supervise staff or provide direction and manage completion of deadlines.
* Demonstrated project management experience, including planning, strategic development, budgeting, and monitoring.
* Strong facilitation, negotiation, and partnership-building skills.
* Competent with Microsoft Office and project management tools.
* Effective creative problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
* Knowledge of workplace health and safety, employment equity, and anti-discrimination principles.
Benefits
Location: Cairns, Tully, Innisfail, or Atherton.
Part-time (58–65.25 hours per fortnight, negotiable). Fixed term until October 2026.
Flexible working arrangements including working from home.
Benefits: 5 weeks annual leave plus 17.5% leave loading, Employee Assistance Program.
Remuneration: $106,904–$115,714 (based on 72.5 hours per fortnight).
