Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic Research & Development team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and FEA analysis. Experience in steel-fabricated components, plastic components, and mass-manufactured products is desirable. They will have a passion for motorsport or flight and/or gaming, which will aid them in creating the cutting-edge racing simulation products that NLR is so well-known for. This role requires a creative problem-solver who can utilize their engineering expertise to work collaboratively with the design team and develop products from concept to production, ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Product Design and Development: Design and develop racing and flight simulation products from initial concept through to mass-manufacture production. DFMA is crucial to this role.

CAD Modelling and Simulation: Create detailed 3D CAD models and perform simulations to validate designs through reports.

Prototyping and Testing: Develop prototypes and oversee testing to ensure products meet performance and durability standards.

Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, customer service, and external manufacturers, to ensure cohesive product development.

Innovation: Stay updated with industry trends and technological advancements to incorporate new ideas into product designs.

Delivering to deadlines: Manage engineering project timelines to deliver products on schedule and within scope.

Quality Assurance: Ensure all products meet stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in structural steel or aluminum design. Experience in the simulation, gaming, or automotive industries will be advantageous.

Technical Skills: Proficient in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Rhino), FEA analysis, prototyping tools, and Adobe Suites. Experience with manufacturing processes and materials.

Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex design issues with creative design thinking.

Creativity: Demonstrated ability to innovate and develop new concepts that enhance user experience and product functionality whilst making efficient use of materials.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with team members.

Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
