The Indian Ocean Territories Administration (IOTA) is currently seeking an experienced Rural Generalist or skilled General Practitioner, with recent Emergency Medicine experience, to make a real difference in a supportive, multicultural community. About The Role
The Director of Public Health and Medicine is primarily responsible for providing high level strategic and specialist expertise in medicine and clinical leadership to our medical services within the Indian Ocean Territories, which consists of Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. You will support quality general practice and remote health and emergency services, ensuring safe, best practice and evidence-based, responsive, delivery of services, while providing advice on the appropriate visiting specialist’s arrangements (medical) to ensure alignment with community needs.
As a senior member of the Health Services team, you will also be required to provide high quality care and advice on the management of patients including leading immediate diagnostic and resuscitative care for life-threatening conditions and provision of ongoing clinical care until the care of that patient can be assumed by the appropriate service.
You will work collaboratively with the Health Service Manager and Director of Nursing and Community Health to facilitate high quality contemporary primary health care services that reflect the chronic disease incidence and prevalence within the communities, while also lead the provision of preventative health strategies to facilitate better health for the communities of Indian Ocean Territories and overseeing clinical governance and continuous quality improvement for Medical Services and contribute clinical expertise across the wider organisation.
Leadership, clinical governance, quality and risk management and managing the performance of the medical workforce are critical components of the role, as is fostering a collaborative and engaged teams by demonstrating positive stakeholder management with internal leadership, patients and members of staff alike.
About You
To be successful in this role, the ideal applicant will be keen to achieve outcomes to support the delivery of Health Services. They will be highly motivated and want to make a difference and have the ability to work across teams, effectively network and build strong partnerships across the IOTA, the wider department and external stakeholders and service providers is essential.
You will possess strong experience in medical administration and demonstrated ability to lead clinical staff, whiles managing the cost-effective use of resource. Experience in working effectively in rural or remote culturally-diverse environments and facilitating care within a multi-disciplinary health care team will be essential in the success of this role.
In addition, you will be experienced in leading preventative public health, comprehensive primary health care and cross-cultural medicine, women’s health, child health and chronic disease management, with recent experience working within an Emergency Department and in-patient management.
To be considered, applicants must possess the following:
* Fellowship with RACGP, ACRRM, or equivalent.
* Recent experience in Emergency Medicine and rural/remote healthcare.
* Advanced life support certifications (ALS2, APLS, EMST, or equivalent).
* Current registration with AHPRA without limitations.
* Current Western Australian Working with Children Check.
* Australian citizenship and a Class C driver’s license.
The applicant must also successfully obtain security clearance at Baseline Vetting level, satisfy Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and pre-engagement medical assessment prior to engagement.
Applicants with experience or qualifications in anesthetics, Advances Emergency Medicine and proficiency in Malay, Indonesian or Chinese languages will be highly regarded.
