The organisation
Vision Australia is a leading national organisation with a proud 150-year legacy. We're passionately pursuing our mission to empower people who are blind or have low vision to live the life they choose. Our dedicated team of around 850 employees and more than 3,000 volunteers delivers vital services across education, employment, independence and social inclusion – from specialist allied health and employment support to assistive technology and Seeing Eye Dogs.
The opportunity
Vision Australia is seeking an experienced and visionary Chief People Officer to lead the organisation's people, performance and culture agenda at a time of continued evolution and opportunity. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Board and its committees, the CPO is responsible for ensuring Vision Australia has a sustainable, inclusive and high-performing workforce aligned to our mission and future strategy.
This role oversees all aspects of people and culture, including workforce strategy, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, learning and development, volunteering, wellbeing and organisational performance. In addition, the CPO leads enterprise-wide process improvement initiatives, helping to simplify systems and enable more effective service delivery.
As a key member of the Leadership Team, you will play a central role in shaping a culture that balances commercial discipline with deep humanity, ensuring Vision Australia remains a great place to work while continuing to deliver meaningful outcomes for the Blind and Low Vision community.
About you
You are a senior people and culture leader with a strong track record of operating at executive level in complex organisations. You bring deep expertise in workforce strategy, employee relations and cultural transformation, with the credibility to influence across all levels of the organisation and with Boards and committees.
You are recognised as a thoughtful, values-led leader who understands the importance of inclusion, wellbeing and belonging, and who can confidently navigate change. Experience leading large, diverse workforces, including regulated professionals and volunteers, will be highly regarded.
Lived experience of blindness or low vision will be highly valued. We actively encourage talented candidates from the Blind and Low Vision community to apply, while warmly welcoming applications from all people and culture leaders who meet the essential capabilities and are passionate about inclusive, purpose-led leadership.
You are future-focused, comfortable leading change and committed to building organisational capability for the long term.
