Offer description

The Regional Australia Institute (RAI) is the nation's leading voice on regional issues.
They are an independent, evidence-based think tank committed to shaping a stronger, more prosperous future for regional Australia.
Through their national and state-based summits, they bring together regional leaders, policymakers, and changemakers to generate impact, influence decisions, and drive momentum.
They are now seeking an Executive Officer to support their dynamic CEO, a visionary leader who is deeply passionate about her work and brings energy and direction to every day.
This role is not just about managing a diary; it's about providing strong, grounded executive support that keeps things moving behind the scenes, with calm and confidence.
Working closely with the CEO, you'll be a trusted extension of her office.
Triaging correspondence, managing internal and external communication, and confidently drafting on her behalf.
You'll also play a critical role in board governance, preparing board packs, managing schedules, and filtering through policy and procedures with discretion and attention to detail.
The ideal candidate will be Canberra-based, though location is flexible.
The CEO works from Pambula, so location is an open discussion for the right fit.
This role requires five days a week, part-time hours (9am–3pm) and offers hybrid flexibility after an initial three-month onboarding period in-office.
We're looking for someone who is professional, firm, and quietly confident.
You'll need to be highly autonomous, make sound decisions without handholding, and know when to take charge.
The CEO is a vibrant and big-picture leader, so we are after someone who will anchor her with structure and steady reliability, while also sharing her energy and love of the work.
You'll be trusted with sensitive information, and your ability to operate with absolute confidentiality is essential.
You must be proactive in filtering emails, prioritising responses, and keeping the CEO informed in real time—sometimes via a quick text.
Importantly, you'll know how to strike the right balance between initiative and judgment, without needing constant direction or reassurance.
What you'll bring: Experience supporting a senior executive in a high-trust, high-stakes environment Understanding of board procedures and governance, including preparing board packs Strong policy acumen and the ability to work through general procedures Excellent written communication skills, as you'll be drafting emails and documents on behalf of the CEO Impeccable attention to detail and a strong sense of discretion Confidence to hold boundaries, manage time, and make decisions independently There is access to parking; however, due to the part-time nature of this role, it may be offered on a shared roster basis.
If you're grounded, switched-on, and ready to partner closely with an exceptional leader — we'd love to hear from you.
Apply now or reach out for a confidential conversation.
