About the Role
We’re looking for a hands‑on Retail & Merchandise Officer
to take ownership of our merchandise business from product ranges and stock management through to game day retail, online sales and everything in between.
This is not a desk only role.
One day you might be working with suppliers on future ranges, the next you’ll be on your feet managing retail operations in our post office and retail store, at a live event, troubleshooting issues in real time and leading casual staff on the ground. You’ll balance commercial thinking with strong people skills, and be comfortable switching between planning, problem solving and delivery.
You’ll operate with a high level of autonomy and trust, and be expected to take ownership of commercial outcomes, not just follow a process.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Driving Sales & Performance
* Owning merchandise revenue across game day retail and online sales (Shopify).
* Planning seasonal and event‑based sales strategies to drive sustainable growth.
* Tracking performance and turning data into practical actions that improve results.
* Providing clear, honest updates on performance to senior stakeholders.
Managing Profitability
* Managing cost of goods and protecting margins.
* Controlling labor and operational costs, particularly on event days.
* Forecasting profitability and responding early to risks or changes in demand.
* Ensuring merchandise activity is accurately reported and reconciled.
Product & Range Development
* Managing a merchandise range that makes commercial sense and resonates with customers.
* Overseeing product selection, pricing, performance review and clearance activity.
* Introducing new or limited‑edition items to create interest and incremental revenue.
* Making sound decisions about what to grow, change, or discontinue.
Stock & Inventory Control
* Managing inventory across warehouses, retail locations and online fulfilment.
* Ensuring accurate stock movements and stock integrity.
* Reducing stock loss, over‑ordering and aged inventory through practical forecasting.
* Following internal stock and financial control processes.
Game Day & Event Retail
* Planning and delivering merchandise operations at live events.
* Managing bump in / bump out, stall layouts and activation points.
* Leading casual game day staff and setting the tone for customer service.
* Working closely with operations and facilities teams to deliver smooth events.
Suppliers & Partners
* Building strong working relationships with suppliers and production partners.
* Negotiating pricing, timelines and re‑orders.
* Coordinating orders to meet sales demand and operational needs.
Online Store & Digital Growth
* Owning the performance and day‑to‑day operation of the online store.
* Identifying high‑performing online products and growth opportunities.
* Using system integrations to improve stock accuracy and reporting.
Working Across the Business
* Collaborating with marketing, finance, operations and events teams.
* Communicating confidently with people working in very different roles and contexts.
* Contributing to seasonal planning and longer‑term commercial growth.
What Success Looks Like
* Consistent merchandise revenue growth
* Healthy margins and cost control
* Well managed, profitable game day retail operations
* Stock systems that are accurate and reliable
* Product ranges that perform and align with brand expectations
* Strong working relationships across the organisation
* Everyone is having fun!
What We’re Looking For
Essential
* Experience in retail, merchandise or commercial operations
* Strong understanding of revenue, margins and cost control
* Experience managing stock and inventory
* Comfort working with data and sales performance
* Willingness to be hands‑on and present at events
* Ability to operate independently and take ownership
Desirable
* Experience in sports, events or venue‑based retail
* Experience using Shopify or similar e‑commerce platforms
* Experience leading casual or seasonal staff
About You
You’re commercially minded, practical and comfortable being accountable for results. You build rapport easily, communicate clearly and are just as comfortable on the retail floor as you are discussing strategy.
You’re organised, adaptable and calm under pressure — particularly in fast‑paced, live environments. Most importantly, you’re someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and making things work.
You are a collaborator, who shares as much as you innovate and happily take direction when required.
