Austal's global shipbuilder and maritime technology partner is seeking an experienced professional to join its team. The company operates in Australia, the USA, Philippines, and Vietnam.

The Lead Welding Capability Specialist will be responsible for delivering the welding capability management plan for Austal Defence Australia.
">
The role ensures that the welding activities of Austal Defence Suppliers meet contracted quality standards across current and future builds delivered under the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA).
">
The successful candidate will provide subject matter expert guidance on best practice weld management, including identifying appropriate corrective actions to resolve the root cause of weld defects.

The Lead Welding Capability Specialist will work closely with the ADSA Engineering team to ensure welding standards are clearly defined in work packages and that subcontractor welding operations are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality.

1. Develop and implement welding capability processes.
">
2. Conduct audits of subcontractor welding operations.
">
3. Oversee Supplier welding tests and inspections.
">
4. Recommend systems for tracking welder contributions to tasks.
">
5. Provide regular reports to senior management on welding progress and quality performance.
">
6. Develop and implement weld mapping systems.
">
7. Train QA team members on weld control procedures.

Key Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

8. 5+ years' experience in a lead role in a welding operation.

9. Detailed knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and equipment.

10. In-depth understanding of industry standards and codes.

11. Proficiency in welding software and tools.

12. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

13. Internal auditor training.
