About this Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to provide accurate, timely and compliant delivery of payroll operations across Ascham School, and for some 700 employees on a fortnightly payroll cycle.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and working closely with a part-time Payroll Assistant, this role ensures all employees are paid correctly and in accordance with relevant legislation, industrial awards and school policies. This is a permanent, full time, and all-year-round role including during term breaks.
What You Will Do
* Manage end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 700 staff on a fortnightly cycle
* Provide leadership and coaching for a part-time Payroll Assistant
* Consider ways to streamline and improve Payroll systems and processes
* Manage complex staff queries via the payroll inbox, in person, or escalated by the Payroll Assistant
* Liaise with employees, Human Resources and management to resolve all payroll-related queries
* Interpret industrial awards, agreements and contracts in relation to overtime, shift allowances, leave and penalty rates
* Calculate and process super contributions, termination payments, leave entitlements, salary adjustments, and back pay
* Produce end-of-month and end-of-year payroll reconciliations and reporting
* Assist with external audit requests and implementation of payroll system upgrades
What You Will Bring
* At least five years' end to end payroll experience (stand-alone role or second in charge for small team) and in managing full weekly, fortnightly or monthly pay cycles
* Proven experience leading or supervising payroll staff
* Ability to interpret complex industrial awards and relevant Australian payroll legislation
* Experience with complex payroll scenarios including terminations, back pay and leave calculations
* Strong communication, interpersonal, collaboration and stakeholder management skills
* Ability to handle sensitive payroll information, work under pressure and meet payroll deadlines
* Ability to perform data analysis and financial reporting insights to support decision making
* Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, and Outlook
* Proficiency with payroll systems and software (preferably Micropay Meridian) and exposure to Time and Attendance software (preferably ConnX and/or Clipboard)
* A valid Working with Children Clearance and current First Aid / CPR certificate
Payroll experience in independent schools, familiarity with ELMO HRIS software and a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business would be well regarded.
