The Australian Red Cross Immigration Detention Monitoring Program (IDMP) conducts regular and frequent independent monitoring of immigration detention facilities across Australia. Volunteers observe the conditions of detention and the treatment of people in detention to ensure their health, dignity and wellbeing is upheld.
Role
The Volunteer Program Officer provides administrative support to the IDMP program, handling sensitive data about conditions in immigration detention centres.
Responsibilities
* Provide logistical and administrative assistance to Lead Humanitarian Observers before, during, and after visits to immigration detention facilities.
* Scan documents, enter data and perform records‐management tasks in accordance with Red Cross record‐keeping policies and procedures.
* Conduct research on a range of issues, including public policy, emerging trends for people in detention and sector mapping.
* Support the IDMP team in developing tools and resources to facilitate operational work.
* Contribute to the development of strategic projects.
Qualifications
Applicants must have excellent data‐management and research skills and the ability to produce clear reports within short timeframes. Proficiency with computers and willingness to learn the Red Cross internal data management system are required. Recent CV and details for two professional references must be provided. A National Police Check will be organised through Red Cross. Applicants must hold or apply for a Working With Children or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on their State/Territory. A high level of sensitivity to confidentiality requirements is essential.
